Why this deck wins
It’s a combo deck: Neoform and Eldritch Evolution sacrifice a cheap creature to search for a much bigger threat — usually Griselbrand or Atraxa — and put it straight into play without paying its cost. Summoner’s Pact fetches that creature ahead of time without tapping out for it, and cheap or free countermagic (Consign to Memory, Pact of Negation, Veil of Summer) protects the combo while it comes together.
In the Top 8, Ichikawa beat Alex Rohan in the quarterfinals and Timo Bertram in the semis, then closed it out 3-0 against Lorenzo Gruppi in the final — his third premier-event title.
What it means for your table
This is Modern, not Standard: none of it rotates or touches whatever you’re playing in Standard. But if you play Modern and like combo decks, here’s a proven, tournament-tuned list from the format’s most competitive event.
When you sit down to play, MagicNexus has a worldwide ranking by format: log your Modern games and compete with your group in cups and leagues.
The next big tournament is the Regional Championships, 11-13 September in Baltimore.
