Standard legal sets: what's in, what rotates and when

Published on 16 July 2026

Standard is the sets from the last three years. Here’s what’s in today, what’s leaving and what’s coming.

If you just want the quick answer: there is no rotation in 2026.

A note on Marvel Super Heroes: Wizards’ official format page doesn’t list it yet, but its cards already show as Standard legal in Scryfall’s database. It came out a few weeks ago and we assume the official list is simply behind. We’ll keep checking.

What rotates

They leave with the first set of 2027, not before. Six of them, because the ones spared in 2026 pile up:

  • Wilds of Eldraine
  • The Lost Caverns of Ixalan
  • Murders at Karlov Manor
  • Outlaws of Thunder Junction (and The Big Score)
  • Bloomburrow
  • Duskmourn: House of Horror

Foundations does not rotate, even though it’s from 2024: it’s an evergreen set and lasts through at least 2029.

What’s coming in

Each one joins Standard as it releases:

SetExpected release
The Hobbit14 Aug 2026
Reality Fracture2 Oct 2026
Star Trek13 Nov 2026

None of them is legal yet — we checked, and none has Standard legal cards. Release dates are Wizards’ and can move.

Watch out for The Hobbit. It’s the first Tolkien set legal in Standard — The Lord of the Rings never was — so plenty of people assume the opposite. But the same day brings The Hobbit Commander, a separate product whose cards are legal in Commander, Legacy and Vintage, but not in Standard. Same franchise, same date, different legality: if you buy those cards for a Standard deck, they won’t do.

How to check it yourself

If you’re unsure about a specific card, look it up on Scryfall and check its legality section: it’s the source that updates first.

And when you sit down to play, MagicNexus has a worldwide ranking by format: log your Standard games and compete with your group in cups and leagues.
